VALUE REFLECTIONS
In the digital-hybrid lives we lead today, it is hard to find moments of reflection. Young people have expressed this repeatedly in conversations we have had with them around social media.
Taking a moment to think about what is important to you is vital when you consider that everything around us—from buildings, to systems and everyday objects—has certain values imbued in it. Recognising values, both our own and others’, helps us navigate the world.
Purpose
Echo was designed specifically to create a space where young people can take the time to intentionally and authentically reflect on their life stories and values, share those stories with a peer, and provide and receive compassionate responses.

The Experience in a Nutshell
The Echo journey starts off with both users in a dyad going through a brief tutorial separately, where each is introduced to the concept of ‘curious listening’. This form of high-quality listening forms the foundation that we want interactions in Echo to have.
Having completed this brief on-boarding, both users engage in a series of back and forths in which they record life stories based on a prompt (for example, “What is a challenging decision that you have faced in your life?”). Users engage in curious listening to give one another compassionate responses that stimulate the storyteller to consider which value tensions play a role in their life.
